Support for Eating Disorders and Body Image

JenUp, founded by Jenny Tomei, is a non-profit making organisation which supports people with eating disorders and body image - issues which are particularly common amongst school-aged children. JenUp offers training, resources and courses to raise awareness and help people who suffer from these conditions, as well as their parents and teachers.

The main JenUp website was developed to showcase the workshops, blogs, podcasts and resources they provide. JenUp wanted to expand their offering to include online courses, which would be made available to students and paid for by their schools. To facilitate this, JenUp needed an LMS (learning management system) which could host the courses and handle an increased amount of traffic, due to the high volume of students taking the courses.

LearnDash Configuration

Sybiltec recommended LearnDash Cloud as a suitable platform for developing a standalone website, which would host the LMS and be capable of meeting the increased traffic requirements. We worked with JenUp to set up LearnDash, upload the course content, create the certificates of completion and connect the subdomain.

We ensured to keep the Courses website consistent with the main JenUp website in terms of branding. We used the JenUp logo, along with the Nunito font, and corporate colours for the buttons (#CCDC29 and #F15B6C).

The platform currently features one course, Age 11-14 Online Course for Body Image and Nutrition, which is being offered as a pilot to schools. There are plans to develop additional courses in future.

Learner Management

We also utilised WooCommerce and the Group Registration plugin by Wisdm Labs to create the functionality needed for schools to be able to purchase the courses and manage the students themselves. Schools create group codes, which are then sent to the students by email. The students then enrol themselves into the course by choosing the Students option on the homepage - here they enter their group code and can create an account to gain access to the course. Each school and its students form a group; schools cannot access students outside of its own group.

The Courses homepage features a simple interface. Users select one of three options:

1. Schools: representatives of schools choose this option to purchase a bulk enrolment for their students.

2. Students: students enrol here with their group code if their school has paid for their seat.

3. Students (self-pay): this option is used by students or individuals wishing to purchase a single seat on the course.

The Result

JenUp now has their own branded LMS to host courses, enabling them to reach their main target audience of school-aged children, as well as individuals wishing to gain support with eating disorders and body image.
