We recently published a LinkedIn poll which asked "What do you think is the most important factor to consider when creating a trustworthy website?"
50% of our respondents voted for "Easy to find contact info".
How many times have you visited a website but couldn't find the information you were looking for, so you emailed customer service, only to hear… nothing? So a few days later you picked up the phone to give them a quick call, only to find that there was no phone number in sight?

But take a moment to look at your own website. Are you making the same mistakes?
Firstly, let's look at why contact details are important.
- Trust/reputation: Providing your contact information reassures your customers that you're a legitimate business, and differentiates your website from the many fraudulent websites that are in existence.
- User experience/convenience: If a customer can't find what they are looking for on your website, then they will want to get in touch with you. You need to make the contact process as straightforward as possible.
- Lead generation: Making sure customers can easily get in touch with you is one of the easiest ways to generate leads.
- It's a legal requirement: Contact details are legally required on almost any business website. If your business is a registered company, you must also provide your registered address.
What Should You Do to Make Your Contact Info Accessible?
Today we are giving you some guidance on the best ways to make your contact information visible on your website.
- Think about where you are placing your contact details. We suggest in the header or footer of the website, and on a Contact Us page.
- If your business operates from multiple locations, you may want to include the contact information for each location on your contact page.
- Give your customers a range of contact options. You may want to include email, phone number, postal address, a contact form and live chat.
- Your contact form should be as simple as possible and include only the required fields, i.e. name, email, phone number and message.
- Respond to email messages in a timely manner.
- Activate the voicemail feature on your phone so customers can leave voice messages.
- Ensure that contact information is valid and up to date. Test email links and verify that the contact form is working.
- Make the phone number and email address clickable so that customers don't have to type them in manually, saving them time and preventing errors.
